Vanessa Garcia was killed by a pickup truck in Harris County, Texas. Garcia was a high school student attending MacArthur High School. The driver of a pick-up truck caused the accident. According to law enforcement, the incident occurred slightly after 5:50 A.M. near Bertrand St. and Ruby Rose St. The driver of the pickup truck was passing a car on the road when he hit the student. Garcia died from the injuries that she received in the car accident.
Vanessa Garcia’s accident is not the only recent fatal car wreck in Harris County.
Johnnie Gipson, a crossing guard for Sherman Elementary School was killed as well, near Hamilton St. and Elgin St. Officials say that the accident occurred at about 9 AM, when two cars were involved in a crash and spun out to the sidewalk where Gipson was standing. Law enforcement believes that a Dodge Avenger ran a red light and hit a Dodge Caravan, which then spun out of the road and hit Gipson. Gipson died from the injuries of the accident while the members of the Caravan were taken to the hospital. The police took the driver of the Avenger to test for impairment.
Our hearts and thoughts go out to Vanessa Garcia and Johnnie Gipson’s families and communities, which I imagine has been deeply affected by the accidents. We understand that their families may have many questions. These family members may have a wrongful death claim.
Were the drivers paying attention? Was there a vehicle malfunction? Were there problems with the lights in the intersection?
