Tana Roy of Lufkin perishes in 18-wheeler accident

On Behalf of | Aug 2, 2013 | Wrongful Death |

A horrible accident occuredin Lufkin, Liberty County. The accident may be a wrongful death case involving an 18-wheeler truck. This is something that we would like to investigate to better inform the families.

Tana Roy, who was 55 years old, perished in the accident. She was the wife of a longtime Lufkin minister at Denman Avenue Baptist Church. Our thoughts and prayers go our to her husband, Pastor Kevin Roy.

Tana Roy’s mother Helen Stopak also died in the accident. She was 79 years old. It is reported that she dies at the scene of the 18-wheeler truck accident at around 3:04 p.m. The accident was approximately 5 miles from Cleveland on Highway 59.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Roy was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon and was traveling southbound on highway 59. She was on her way to the Houston airport for a vacation.

Avery Norman, the other driver was also driving southbound on highway 59. We believe that he slowed to turn left and Roy took evasive action and left the road in order to avoid an accident, but then the vehicle overturned in the ditch. This is a likely wrongful death case.

Roy’s sister, Jenny Young, was also in the vehicle. She suffered minor injuries. While, the DPS reports that Mrs. Roy and Ms. Stopak were not wearing seatbelt, an investigation should occur to determine whether they would have perished in the truck accident anyway.

Mrs. Roy worked at Etech. We hope all her co-workers have peace during this hard time.
