Julie Gatheral is dead after being victim to a horrific car crash allegedly caused by an intoxicated male driver. This incident occurred on the night of September 22, 2015 on the Harbor Bridge in Corpus Christi. We would predict that this case may result in a wrongful death lawsuit, especially if evidence proves that the male driver was in fact legally intoxicated.
Gatheral was driving northbound on the Harbor Bridge in the right direction. An alleged male drunk driver drove onto the Harbor Bridge in the wrong direction, heading southbound on the north side of the bridge. The man’s truck then collided head-on with Gatheral’s car.
Gatheral and the male driver had to be transported from the scene of the accident to the hospital. Reports indicate that the male driver did not have critical injuries. Unfortunately, Gatheral did not survive at the hospital as a result of the extreme injuries she sustained. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
There is simply no excuse for operating a vehicle while under the influence. Every time someone turns the key to start the engine it is their responsibility to ensure that they are not impaired in any way. This man has taken the life of another person which is the most heinous crime out of them all.
According to reports, the police discovered some evidence after the accident that gives them the impression that the male driver who caused the accident had been previously drinking alcohol. In light of the evidence, the police are trying to figure out whether or not the man was legally intoxicated. The man could possibly face charges of intoxicated manslaughter if it comes back that he in fact was drunk.
Although the police are doing their own investigating, they cannot always be fully relied upon. There are some questions that may still need answers and some actions that may need explanations. Personal injury lawyers do not always rely on the police reports. They often hire private investigators to find the answers to additional questions. Investigators often obtain helpful information that is not included in the police report, information that family members sometimes want to know.
The facts of this case may support a wrongful death lawsuit. The Weaver Law Firm understands that family and friends may have plenty of questions regarding wrongful death and accidents caused by drunk drivers.
