Reports coming out of Temple, Texas state that Derrick Davis, 19, of Houston was involved in a fatal car accident. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 3 AM near Southeast HK Dodgen Loop and Highway 95. Police believe that Davis, the driver of the vehicle, a Nissan SUV was driving west on the highway when the car veered off the road and rolled over. There were two other passengers in the car, a 19-year old woman and a 21-year old man, who were hospitalized with non-critical injuries. However, Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear as to why the car drifted off the road and rolled over. We wonder if this was a case of distracted driving or if there was a vehicle malfunction.
Reports coming out of Lubbock County state that Justice Chavez, 17, and Alicia Ramos, 16, were involved in a fatal car accident. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 6 PM on County Road 6100 and FM 179. The driver, Chavez, was driving east when she ran through a stop sign. This caused the car to be hit by Douglass Fairbanks, who was driving a pick-up truck. Police believe that though Fairbanks saw Chavez and attempted to avoid her car, he was not able to brake sufficiently quickly. Fairbanks and his 10-year old son were not seriously injured. However, both Chavez and her passenger, Ramos died from their injuries. We wonder if this case could trigger a wrongful death claim.
