Maleeca Shon-Teal Smith, 20, was killed in a drunk driving incident in Austin, Texas. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 10:30 PM on Burnet Road. Shawn Amende, 26, was driving a Chevy Camaro north on Burnet Road when he ran a red light, which caused him to hit a Nissan Altima that was driving east on Gracy Farms Lane. Amende and his passenger were taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries but Smith died from her injuries. Police believe that Amende was speeding when he ran the red light and that he had already gone through a few red lights before he hit the Nissan.
Reports coming out of El Paso state that two pedestrians were severely injured when a car collided with them. According to surveillance video, the accident occurred at about 5 PM at the intersection between Dyer Street and Annette Avenue. The two pedestrians were standing on the median when a car crashed into them. This car had been collided with at the intersection by another car. It is unclear as to the state of the pedestrians’ injuries. It is also unknown as to whether the drivers or passengers in the vehicles were injured. The cause of the accident between the two cars is also unknown.
