Passenger dead after SUV crashes into home

On Behalf of | Nov 23, 2011 | Wrongful Death |

It is an unfortunate reality that the results of car accidents in Houston and elsewhere are often devastating. That was especially true of a motor vehicle accident involving a SUV that crashed into a residence, killing a passenger and injuring the other two occupants of the vehicle. Police have speculated that speed was a factor in the crash, but the incident is still under investigation.

What appears to have happened is that at around 2 a.m. on Nov. 7, the vehicle was traveling eastbound on West Alabama Street in Houston when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The SUV went through the parking lot of Divino Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar before crashing through a fence and into a house. It hit the rear bedroom of the residence, which was fortunately unoccupied at the time.

Houston firefighters immediately responded and removed the three occupants of the vehicle. The driver and one passenger were taken to Ben Taub General Hospital. The second passenger died.

In this case, it is likely that the family of the deceased would benefit from the assistance of an experienced attorney. They may be able to file a wrongful death suit, which is a type of civil claim for a death caused by the negligent or reckless conduct of another. Through the suit, they may be able to collect compensation, not only for their funeral expenses, but also for the emotional suffering they are surely experiencing. Likewise, had anyone been in the bedroom and been injured by the SUV, they also likely would have benefited from consulting with a personal injury attorney.
