Children in Houston school bus accident avoid major injuries

Early Monday morning, a Houston Independent School District school bus was in an accident with a concrete truck. The bus crash happened around 6:00 a.m. near Mykawa at Schumier Road. The truck flipped over onto its side in a ditch. There were 2 children on the bus, but only the bus driver went to the hospital. Truck accidents like this one most likely could have been avoided.

With this type of vehicle impact, I am surprised that the two children did not go to the hospital. We typically expect people that are involved in these types of accidents to have suffered from at least neck and back injuries. I suspect that if they are not majorly hurting today, they will be two days from now.

People suffering from bus accident and other truck accident injuries should see a doctor to determine the extent of injuries. Sometimes people suffer from head and brain injuries but do not initially realize the trauma.

We are glad that the children escaped with minor injuries and wish them a speedy recovery. This was a commercial truck accident that could have been a lot worse. I am sure the children's parents would like to know the details of the accident.

Who was in error in this situation? Since the concrete truck was over in a ditch, is that an indication that it tried to avoid the accident? Was it evidence of loss of control? What is the work history of the school bus driver? And how can we avoid accidents like this from happening again?
