Wrong-way driver leaves man struggling to walk

When someone is injured in a car accident through no fault of their own, they have the chance to pursue compensation for their injuries from the responsible party. Drivers have a responsibility to exercise caution when they are on the road, and that includes being aware of other cars on the road.

A car crash that happened only a few days ago in Houston perfectly illustrates this point. Police had been trying for more than 10 minutes to stop a man who was driving the wrong way on Beltway 8. Other news reports state that police had used different methods, including a spike strip, to stop the driver, but were unsuccessful. The man finally hit a pickup truck at 80 mph. The wrong-way driver was killed in the crash.

The man driving the pickup truck who was hit sustained several serious injuries, and doctors have only given him a 50-50 chance of ever walking again. According to his children, the man cannot feel his legs, which are both broken in three places, and he has three cracked vertebrae.

The man was driving his son to work at the time of the accident. The son said that he was also in a great deal of pain, including soreness to his ribs, back and one of his knees. But, understandably, he is more worried about his father.

While the wrong-way driver's death is tragic, especially because there doesn't seem to be an explanation for why he ignored police while speeding the wrong way, it does not mean that the injured man should have to pay for his own recovery. His family could benefit from consulting with a personal injury lawyer, who could help present a case to hold someone else's reckless conduct accountable for the man's injuries.
