Maleeca Shon-Teal Smith, 20, was killed in a drunk driving incident in Austin, Texas. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 10:30 PM on Burnet Road. Shawn Amende, 26, was driving a Chevy Camaro north on Burnet Road when he ran a red light, which caused him to hit a Nissan Altima that was driving east on Gracy Farms Lane. Amende and his passenger were taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries but Smith died from her injuries. Police believe that Amende was speeding when he ran the red light and that he had already gone through a few red lights before he hit the Nissan.
Reports coming out of Harris County state that Kyle Dawkins was killed in a drunk driving motorcycle accident. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred on East Freeway near Beltway 8. William Scott was driving east on the highway when he rear-ended Dawkins's motorcycle. Police believe that Scott was intoxicated while driving and he will be charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Jeffrey Coleman, a resident of San Bernardino, California was involved in a fatal accident in Tye, Texas. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 4 PM on the FM 707 exit on I-20. Police believe that the pick-up truck that Coleman was driving collided head-on with a Brinks Security truck. The driver of the security truck was not injured. It is unclear as to what exactly caused the accident. Was this a case of distracted driving? Did one of the drivers not notice the other car?
Reports coming out of Fort Worth, Texas state that seventeen fatalities and injuries were sustained in a vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler. More specifically, there were five fatalities, two critical injuries, and ten who suffered minor injuries. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 2:30 AM on I-30, when a driver, who was driving west, crashed into a concrete barrier near Oakland Boulevard. A few people stopped to help, and this is when an 18-wheeler crashed into the group that seemed to be in the lanes of traffic. The collision may have caused the 18-wheeler to burst into flames. Three fatalities have been identified as Veronica Gonzalez, Mary Hernandez, and Clarissa Alexandra Banda-Castillo. Gonzalez's husband, Ely Alba-Gonzalez was also injured but his condition is not yet known. One person with critical injuries has been identified as Tracey Franklin. The 18-wheeler driver was also injured but not critically.
Reports coming out of Houston, Texas state that a person and nine other people were taken to the hospital due to a drunk driving incident. Law enforcement believes that the accident occurred at about 10 PM in the 1500 block of Gears Street, near Crown Park. The drunk driver, Jose Martir Salazar-Ramirez, was driving in the wrong direction when he collided head-on with a pick-up truck. Inside Salazar-Ramirez's car, a Mitsubishi, were two other people. The fatality was one of the passengers, while the other passengers, including those who were in the truck, were taken to the hospital. Included in the other vehicle were a few children, who had to be taken to the hospital as well. However, they seem to be in stable condition.
Reports coming out of Mabank, Texas state that Richard Davey was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 2 PM, when Davey was riding his motorcycle northwards on Texas Highway 198. A car that was heading down East Jeter Street failed to yield the right of way and crashed into Davey. According to police reports, the driver of the car was an unlicensed minor who was driving with a learner's permit. The passenger was a licensed adult.
James Malone, a 16-year old high school student at Southlake Carroll Senior High School died in a fatal bicycle accident in Southlake, Texas. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 8 PM in the 600 block of Byron Nelson Parkway. Malone was riding his bicycle on the parkway when he attempted to cross Lilac Lane and was hit by a car. The cause of the accident is unknown. We wonder if the driver simply did not see the bicyclist.
Daniel Moran, 22, was killed in a workplace accident in Argyle, Texas. The accident occurred at Argyle High School where another accident had taken place earlier. According to law enforcement, Jose Moran, Daniel's father, was driving a truck that was hauling two trailers. Daniel was guiding his father from the back and he got stuck by the tires of the last trailer. This caused him to get run over by the 18-wheeler.
Savannah Michelle Taylor, 21, was killed in a fatal car accident in Magnolia, Texas. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred on FM 1774. Taylor was driving south on the highway in a Ford Edge when another driver, Xavier Keyshawn Nero, 17, who was driving a Ford Explorer, crashed into her head-on. Reports state that Nero overcorrected after he went off the road, which caused him to collide with Taylor's car. Taylor was killed from the injuries she sustained in the accident, while Nero was taken to the hospital and released. We wonder if this case could trigger a wrongful death claim.
Reports coming out of Longview, Texas state that Rachel Elizabeth DeLorme, 19, of Hallsville was involved in a fatal car accident. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 12 PM on FM 2208 near Longview. Police reports state that the driver of a Ford F-150 pick-up truck, Phillip Lamar Martindale of Arp, was on the highway when a Hyundai Accent, driven by DeLorme, drove into oncoming traffic and hit the Ford. DeLorme died from the injuries she sustained in the accident while Martindale was taken to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
