Reports coming out of Wood County, Texas state that Velma Dismukes of Winnsboro died in a vehicle accident. The accident occurred on Highway 11 at about 9 AM. A semi-truck was travelling westbound on the highway when the driver, Mitchell Bartram, of Euless, crossed the line dividing the lanes. He was going around a curve and hit Dismukes's car that was travelling eastbound. Dismukes died from the injuries she sustained in the crash. Bartram was uninjured.
Reports coming out of Carrollton, Texas state that Sherry Gutkowski died in a motorcycle accident. Police believe that she was taking the motorcycle out on a test drive in a parking lot next to the motorcycle dealership. The motorcycle hit a curb and it flipped over. Gutkowski was thrown from the bike and died from the injuries she sustained in the accident after being taken to the hospital. Were there any malfunctions that caused the motorcycle to flip over when hitting the curb?
Giovanna Eguia-Rodriguez died in a hit-and-run in San Antonio, Texas. Law enforcement believes that the incident occurred at around 9 PM at the intersection of Bell Drive and Uhr Lane. The driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe ran through a stop sign and crashed into Eguia-Rodriguez's car. The driver then fled from the scene on foot. Police believe that speed was a factor in the incident and that the driver ran through a stop sign. Eguia-Rodriguez died from the injuries she sustained in the accident.
Scott Andrew Evans, of Tatum, lost control of his car and died in an accident near Kilgore. Police believe that he was westwards on Stone Road, FM 2204, towards Kilgore when he lost control of the car. The accident occurred at about 8 AM. The car crashed into a tree and then caught on fire. Scott Evans, who was 19, died at the scene of the accident.
Reports coming out of Forth Worth state that three children and one adult were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle collision. The accident occurred on Texas 114, east of Rhome, at about 7 PM. Law enforcement believes that the driver of an 18-wheeler, Joshua Little, was eastbound on the highway and was turning right into City Concrete. The driver of a car, John Graham, was also eastbound and was behind Little. Graham turned to look backwards for just a moment and in that moment, the car collided with the 18-wheeler. Graham and the three children in the car with him were taken to the hospital. Little suffered no injuries.
Reports coming out of Lubbock, Texas state that Kirk Lamont Follis of Amarillo, Texas died in a pedestrian-related accident. Law enforcement reports that the accident occurred near Dawn, along Highway 60, at 4:30 AM. Kirk Follis had gotten out of his pick-up truck and was standing on the side of the road. The driver of an 18-wheeler, John D. Spurlock of Norwood, Ohio was behind the truck and moved to the other lane to avoid the parked car. Follis, however, was in the next lane and was consequently hit by the 18-wheeler. It is not clear as to whether Spurlock saw Follis or if he saw him and did not have enough time to brake. It is also unclear what Follis was doing outside of his car.
Jocelyn Markham of San Antonio, Texas was killed in a car accident. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 1 PM in the southbound lanes of Highway 281, near Basse Road. The truck driver lost control of the car as she came to a turn and hit the retaining wall of the highway. The truck hurtled off the overpass and fell into a body of water about 40 feet below. Markham, who was eighteen years old, died from the injuries sustained in the accident. She is believed to have been the driver of the truck.
Josey Scott of Shepherd, Texas was killed in a hit-and-run incident. The college student was jogging near FM 2666 at Red Road when a car hit her from behind. Law enforcement believes that the suspect is a man from Cleveland, Texas. Fortunately, he turned himself over to the police later on that day and charges are expected to be filed.
A girl from Nederland, Texas sustained severe injuries after she was involved in a motorcycle accident. The girl was riding as a motorcycle passenger when the motorcycle collided with an SUV at about 4 PM at the intersection of Canal Avenue and Hamilton Court.
The ramp from the President George Bush Turnpike to northbound Dallas North Tollway was temporarily closed down due to an accident that involved an 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler overturned when its load was spilled across the highway as it crashed. Another accident saw the closing of all of the lanes of southbound Interstate-35 West that also involved the overturning of an 18-wheeler. Its load was also spilled across the highway when it crashed.
