On September 3, 2015, a major car accident occurred in Houston involving a pick-up truck and a Mack dump truck driven by fifty-two year old Arsby Robins. The driver of the 2015 Dodge pick-up truck was thirty-four year old Jason Omelina. He was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas due to his serious injuries. The accident occurred a little before 4pm.
Thursday afternoon on August 27, 2015 a school bus filled with students from Pensacola High School was struck by a dump truck in Pensacola, Florida. The bus contained 22 students, bus driver Harriet Collins and a driver's assistant. Around 3:30pm, a dump truck driven by a thirty-three year old man named Abraham Larry Jr. missed a red light and crashed into the school bus. The school was struck from behind, and then hit a utility pole before flipping on its side at the edge of the road.
Reports coming out of Jacksonville, Florida state that Charles Robert Campbell died in a fatal vehicle accident that involved two semi-trucks and two cars. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred on I-95 at about 3:30 AM. Police believe that a semi tractor-trailer attempted to avoid hitting a piece of debris in the middle of the highway. This caused the semi-truck to lose control and it struck the concrete barrier. There was a Chevrolet Blazer SUV that was also travelling in the same lane that was incapable of stopping and it slid underneath the semi. The driver of the SUV, Campbell, died from the injuries he sustained in the accident. Another semi-truck was travelling behind the first one and successfully avoided the debris but rear-ended another car. The people inside of the car were taken to the hospital, but are reported to not have serious injuries.
Melissa Soto, 23, of Pomona California was involved in a fatal vehicle accident near Arlington. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at the intersection between Old Blue Mound Road and Farm Road 156 at about 8 PM. Police believe that Soto did not stop at the intersection, causing her to collide with a tractor-trailer. Soto died at the scene of the accident while two of her passengers were taken to the hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. We wonder what may have caused Soto to not stop at the intersection. Was it a case of distracted driving or perhaps a vehicle malfunction?
Reports coming out of Chilton, Texas state Albert Patrick Garrett of Troy, Texas was involved in a vehicle accident that also involved an 18-wheeler. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 6 AM at the intersection of U.S. Highway 77 and State Highway 7. Police believe that Garrett was driving north on Highway 77 when an 18-wheeler that was driving west collided with Garrett's Chevrolet pick-up truck. It is believed that the 18-wheeler slid into the northbound lanes because of the wet weather. Garrett died from the injuries he sustained in the accident while the driver of the 18-wheeler, Louis Diggs Holms was not injured at all. We wonder if this case could trigger a wrongful death claim.
Reports coming out of San Antonio, Texas state that there were a few minor injuries caused by a motorcycle-auto accident. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 11:30 PM on I-10 near Vance Jackson. A pick-up truck was travelling east when it hit the retaining wall of the highway when a motorcyclist in front lost control of his motorcycle and fell off. In order to avoid hitting him, the driver of the truck swerved and hit the wall. The truck's passenger along with the motorcyclist were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Reports coming out of El Paso, Texas state that Jaqueline Galindo, 18, was involved in a fatal single car accident. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 3 AM on the 5000 block of Gateway Boulevard South. Police believe that Galindo was driving south in a Dodge Neon when she lost control of the car. This caused the Dodge to hit a light pole. Galindo died from her injuries. It is believed that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. It is unknown as to why she lost control of the car. We wonder if there was a vehicle malfunction or if there was something in the road that she was attempting to avoid.
Clark Brandon Davis, from Arlington, Texas, was killed and three others were injured in a road accident when a Crowley-based tractor-trailer crashed into a bridge construction project on I-35 near Salado, Texas. The tractor-trailer was being driven by Valentin Martinez, a Lares Trucking employee at about 11:30 AM when it the top of the vehicle hit the bottom of the bridge. This caused two concrete beams to fall from the bridge onto the highway. One of the beams fell onto another tractor-trailer and a pick-up truck was crushed as well. The driver of the truck, Davis, died from the injuries he sustained in the accident. Three others were injured as well, but only one was admitted to the hospital.
Stinson Thomas from Lufkin, Texas suffered injuries in an 18-wheeler accident. Law enforcement reports that the truck rolled over on US Highway 190, very close to the Jasper-Newton County line. The accident occurred at about 5 AM, when the driver of the Mack tractor-trailer rig overcorrected and the vehicle overturned. Law enforcement believes that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Though Thomas did sustain injuries from the accident, they were only minor and he was released from the hospital shortly after he was brought there.
The ramp from the President George Bush Turnpike to northbound Dallas North Tollway was temporarily closed down due to an accident that involved an 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler overturned when its load was spilled across the highway as it crashed. Another accident saw the closing of all of the lanes of southbound Interstate-35 West that also involved the overturning of an 18-wheeler. Its load was also spilled across the highway when it crashed.
