Reports coming out of Austin, Texas state that Kenneth Edward Colton and John David Price were killed in a pedestrian-auto accident. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 6 AM on Burleson Road and Promontory Point Drive. Police believe that Colton was walking across the street when he was struck by a car. Price was attempting to help Colton out of the road when he was also struck by another car. It is unknown as to why the accidents occurred. We wonder if the drivers were able to see the pedestrians in the early morning light. We wonder if the drivers may have been driving above the speed limit and if so, if they were unable to brake in time. We also wonder if Colton was crossing the street legally or if there was jaywalking involved.

Pedestrian and bicycle accidents are not uncommon in Texas.

Reports coming out of Houston state that Terry Lee Chatman was riding a bicycle when he was struck by R. Scott, a police officer. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 4 AM on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Scott was unable to avoid Chatman and struck the bicycle at the intersection of the Boulevard and Reed. Scott had a green light but was not able to brake sufficiently quickly. Chatman died at the scene, while Scott suffered from minor injuries as his car veered off the road and hit a fence. It is unclear as to whether Scott was speeding or if this was a case where Scott simply did not see Chatman.

Our thoughts and hearts go out to the victims’ families, who we imagine have been deeply saddened by these accidents. We wonder if these cases might trigger wrongful death claims. We encourage families who have experienced similar situations to contact a personal injury attorney, who may be able to explain to them their rights and options.
