Robert Dale Powers died in Beaumont, Texas in a car accident involving an 18-wheeler. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred on U.S. 69 in Lumberton near Jordan Drive at 9 AM. Police believe that Powers drove out of his lane into oncoming traffic and was hit by an 18-wheeler. Powers died at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
Our hearts and thoughts go out to the victim’s family. We imagine that they have been deeply saddened by the accident. We understand that the victim’s family may have many questions. Why did the driver swerve out of his lane? Was he distracted? Was there a vehicle malfunction? Was he attempting to avoid something in the road?
As one can imagine, vehicle accidents are not uncommon in Texas.
Reports coming out of Trinity state that a woman crashed through a church window because of a car accident. The accident occurred at about 4:30 AM near Highway 19 and F.M. 1617. The woman was a passenger in a car. There was also an infant in the vehicle as well. The cause of the accident is unknown, but it is believed that factors may have involved a slick road. The accident occurred at a fork in the road, so it may be that the driver attempted to turn and lost control of the car. Nevertheless, the car went off the road and flipped over a few times, ejecting both the passenger and the driver. Neither was wearing a seatbelt. The infant was not ejected because it was wearing a seatbelt. The three people suffered only minor injuries, thankfully. However, it is extremely important to note the lack of seatbelts in this situation and the importance of wearing them. If the infant had not been wearing a seatbelt, we can only imagine the tragedy that would have ensued.
