Gage Tibbetts in fatal car accident in Midland County.

Gage Tibbetts was pronounced dead at the scene of a recent car accident. He was the 42nd person to die on roads in Midland County this year and the third death this year on FM 1788. A Copperas Cove man died in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning on FM 1788 south of State Highway 191. A police investigation shows that a semi hauling a trailer was angled perpendicular on FM 1788 while attempting to reverse into a business. Everyday auto accidents occur across Texas. And each and every car accident is different, each resulting in differing levels of damages, injuries and losses. While most car accidents are caused by another driver's negligence or momentary lapse of attention, some accidents are caused by reckless behavior. Common acts of negligence include failing to yield the right of way, rear-ending a vehicle, running a stop light or stop sign or an unsafe lane change. Tibbetts was driving a Honda passenger car southbound on FM 1788 when it crashed into the trailer and passed underneath, according to the release from Sara Bustilloz. Traffic on FM 1788 was reduced to one lane for about three hours while Midland Police Department conducted its investigation.

A 74-year-old woman Jan. 11 died after her vehicle collided with a pickup and a 75-year-old woman died Aug. 14 when an SUV collided with her vehicle. Common acts of reckless disregard occur when a driver operates a vehicle at extreme high speeds, drives under the influence of alcohol or drugs or races another vehicle. In Texas, if the other driver is negligent the injured individual should be entitle to property damage, medical bills and expenses, pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages and/or lost income.

A preliminary investigation shows a semi hauling a trailer was angled perpendicular on FM 1788 while attempting to reverse into a business. A Honda passenger car traveling southbound on FM1788 crashed into the trailer, passing underneath, according to a press release from city spokeswoman Sara Bustilloz. The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is the 42nd fatality on roads in Midland County this year, according to Reporter-Telegram records. Traffic on FM 1788 has been reduced to one lane with southbound and northbound traffic alternating use of the road. These lane closures will remain in effect for approximately the next three hours while Midland Police Department conducts its investigation.
