On October 20, 2014, a Texas state trooper, E. J. King, was injured when a Ford F-250 pick-up truck pulling a trailer loaded with hay collided with the back of his patrol SUV on Texas 288 in Angleton, Texas.

The accident occurred around 1:00 p.m. while King was completing paperwork related to the inspection an 18-wheeler.  King and the driver of the 18-wheeler were flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital by helicopter for treatment.  The driver of the pick-up was taken to an area hospital for a blood specimen to be taken.  King suffered a broken hand and leg.  No information related to the driver of the 18-wheeler was released at the time of the news report.

At the time of the collision, King’s SUV was parked behind the 18-wheeler.  The force of the pick-up’s impact drove the front of King’s SUV under the 18-wheeler’s trailer, which was carrying industrial piping.

A thorough investigation will most certainly follow to determine the cause of the accident and whether the location of King’s SUV and the 18-wheeler played a role in the collision.  DPS investigators also believe the pick-up driver’s failure to control speed appears to be a significant contributing factor in causing the accident.

Fortunately, the pick-up’s driver’s negligence did not result in life-threatening injuries or fatalities to the persons involved in this truck accident.
