Texas motorcyclist in critical condition following collision

A motorcycle rider was injured in a crash on Oct. 14 in College Station. The car accident was said to have occurred just prior to 5:30 p.m. after a driver turned her car in front of the motorcyclist on Southwest Parkway near Texas Avenue. When the car made the turn, the 20-year-old motorcyclist hit the passenger side of the vehicle and was thrown from his bike. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The motorcyclist, a Seguin native and a student at Texas A&M, along with the two occupants of the vehicle were taken to College Station Medical Center. He was listed in critical condition. The driver of the car, an 18-year-old Bedias woman, was listed in fair condition while her passenger, a 20-year-old man also from Bedias, was upgraded from critical condition to fair condition soon after the accident.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for failure to yield. The College Station Police accident reconstruction team began working at the site at 8:30 a.m. the next day. Residents were warned by a local news source to expect lane closures and delays in the area. By 11:30 a.m., all lanes were opened to traffic.

When people are injured due to a driver's failure to obey traffic laws, a personal injury attorney could use the official accident report from the police to prove the driver's negligence. From there, the attorney might negotiate with the driver's insurance company for a settlement to cover the injured party's medical expenses. If an adequate settlement cannot be attained through negotiations, the attorney might recommend court proceedings.
