On Behalf of | Jul 11, 2013 | Brain Injury |

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a type of acquired injury to the brain, a severe head injury that causes damage to the brain and results in the disruption of the brains normal function. It is not congenital, hereditary, dysfunctional or induced by birth trauma. TBI is the product of a sudden violent head trauma, a closed injury or an object piercing the skull and entering the brain. The piercing injury is often referred to as a penetrating injury. These injuries are not uncommon to Texans or citizens in cities like Houston, Galveston, the Port of Houston and San Antonio. It is not uncommon to these areas since these types of injuries result from work place accidents or automobile accidents. In these large metropolitan areas, people often find themselves hurt in workplace and automobile accidents. Hospitals often see patients suffering from injuries that resulted from motorcycle accidents. These head injuries occur because the rider is not wearing a helmet, but still occur when helmets are worn.

A common occurance is that TBI results from a bump, blow or jolt to the head which would result in a closed traumatic brain injury. Every traumatic brain injury is a severe head injury. There aren o mild brain injuries.
