Houston driver runs light, injures passenger

On Behalf of | May 25, 2012 | Car Accidents |

It’s important to obey all traffic signals, because they are in place for everyone’s safety. Carelessly disregarding them can put the driver’s life at risk, along with any passengers and other drivers on the road. Any car accident caused by violating any traffic laws can leave a driver liable for any injuries to anyone else.

This was the case in a recent southeast Houston car accident, when a driver allegedly ran a red light, sending the driver and a passenger to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to reports, the driver and passenger were heading eastbound on the frontage road for highway 610 at about 10:30 p.m. when the car ran a red light. The car collided with a SUV that was proceeding through the intersection.

The driver and passenger were trapped in the car and had to be removed by firefighters. Although the injuries were described as serious, both were listed in stable condition. Fortunately, the SUV driver was not injured.

It remains to be seen whether any criminal charges will be filed against the driver. The injuries to the passenger could mean charges will be filed, and there would have likely been more if the SUV driver was injured. There was no information available on if police suspect that alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.

Sadly the accident could have been avoided if the driver simply stopped at the light when they were supposed to. Obeying traffic laws greatly reduces the chances of accidents happening.
