Truck, motorcycles collide on Houston interstate

An accident between a motorcycle and a truck almost always, for obvious resons, leads to serious injuries or death. And because of the great disparity in size between the two vehicles, people may assume that the motorcycle driver was not at fault. Motorcycle drivers have just as much of a responsibility as other drivers to obey the rules of the road, but the cause of a recent accident in Houston does not appear to have an obvious culprit.

Two motorcycles were involved in a motor vehicle accident with a cargo truck at about 2 a.m. on Oct. 11 in Houston. The riders were said to be headed westbound on Interstate 10. They apparently meant to exit onto northbound U.S. Highway 59, but missed their exit. Police say the drivers then tried to compensate by making U-turns on Interstate 10, resulting in the collision. One rider, who sustained serious injuries including a broken leg, was transported to a local hospital. Police learned the other rider had outstanding warrants, and he was placed under arrest, while the truck driver was not hurt.

Traffic was diverted for an hour, as police investigated the scene. While initial reports appear to place responsibility for the motor vehicle accident on one or both cyclists, there is no indication that police issued any citations.

This accident did not appear to have an obvious culprit. As the investigation into the crash progresses, all parties involved would be within their rights to consult with a personal injury lawyer. If the motorcycle drivers are at fault, the truck driver might have sued to recover monetary damages had he been injured. One thing that is clear, though, is that people need to be aware of their surroundings while on the road.
