Houston car accident leaves brother and sister dead

On Behalf of | Nov 10, 2011 | Car Accidents |

Houston streets can be dangerous for both drivers and passengers. In the blink of an eye, an auto accident can occur, sometimes with devastating consequences. When people are driving, they have a responsibility to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings; otherwise their negligence could have tragic results. Such was the case on Oct. 23, when a five-car accident left a brother and sister dead.

According to authorities, the car crash occurred at about 11:30 p.m. close to the 3300 block of the North Sam Houston Tollway. Police report that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was heading westbound on the tollway but failed to slow down as it approached the toll booth. The Silverado collided into the rear end of a Pontiac Grand Am with enough force that the Pontiac was pushed into the automobile in front of it. Of the two people in the Pontiac, one died at the scene and the other died later at the hospital; they were brother and sister.

Upon arrival at the scene, paramedics transported the driver of the Silverado truck to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Through blood tests, it was determined that the driver of the truck had a blood alcohol content that was twice the legal limit. Police expect to the 55-year-old driver to be charged upon his release from the hospital. He could face two counts of felony intoxicated manslaughter.

Nothing will be able to turn back the clock on this tragedy. But the family of the deceased may be able to hold the one responsible to account. Reckless actions such as drunk driving that result in injuries or death can be adjudicated through a civil lawsuit. The family of this brother and sister may wish to consult with a Houston area personal injury attorney to see what their options are.
