On August 23, 2015, students and teachers in Garland, Texas begin school with a heavy heart as they mourn the loss of a local student. Sunday morning, Angel Blancas was killed in a car accident that injured 2 other teenagers in Garland, Texas. They suspect that the freshman high school student was speeding in a sedan, and may have been under the influence of alcohol. The student was driving a family member’s car without a licence because of his age. Garland law enforcement suspect that the sedan went off the road and crashed into a fire hydrant before colliding with a nearby utility pole around 5:30am. However, the accident is still under investigation.

The other two students, one of which attended Jackson Middle School, were rescued. Both of the passengers survived. One sustained several serious injuries, however the other is stable. Both are currently in the Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, TX.

The school district has provided grief counselors for both students and teachers in an effort to alleviate the pain felt by the community at the start of the year.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, 8.4% of DUI fatalities in Texas occur for drivers 21 years or younger (2014.) In addition, last year 210 fatalies in Texas were caused by speeding. The police and witnesses believe that the accident was caused by a combination of both intoxication and speeding.

Attorneys do not always rely on police reports to obtain information. Personal injury lawyers often hire private investigators to gather more facts about each case and the true cause of an accident. Are you looking for answers to your questions?
