Vera Cowie, 10, died in a fatal car accident that involved three vehicles in Alvarado, Texas. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred on I-35, between County Road 401 and US 67. Police believe that a Dodge was driving on the highway at about 6 PM when it hydroplaned. This caused the Dodge to begin spinning, which made it collide with a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. This collision caused the Hyundai to swerve into the median and cross into the opposite lanes. It was subsequently hit by a Lexus CT200h. Cowie was a passenger in the Lexus and unfortunately died from her injuries. The other passengers and drivers of the cars were taken to the hospital. It is unknown as of yet what their conditions are.

Unfortunately, car accidents in which young people die are not uncommon in Texas.

Reports coming out of El Paso state that two teenage boys, ages 17 and 18, died in a car accident. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred near Zaragoza Road and the Cesar Chavez Border Highway at about 10 PM. Police believe that a BMW was travelling on the road when the driver lost control. The car hit a guardrail, flipped over, and caught on fire. Two passengers died at the scene of the accident, while the driver, another 18 year old, and the third passenger were taken to the hospital. The driver did not have critical injuries but the passenger has severe burns from the accident. We wonder if this case could trigger a wrongful death claim.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to the victims’ families and communities, who we imagine have been deeply affected by these tragedies. We also sincerely hope that those hospitalized have speedy recoveries.
