Raymond Ted Miller, a teacher from Magnolia, Texas, was involved in a car accident at about 7:30 AM. According to law enforcement, he was driving south on Highway 60 when his car, a Nissan Versa, went off the road. Miller overcorrected and drove into the opposite lane, into oncoming traffic. He collided with a Chevrolet pick-up truck head-on. Miller died from the injuries he sustained in the accident, whereas the driver of the Chevrolet, Richard Light, was injured, but not critically so.
Why did Miller veer off the road? Was there a vehicle malfunction? Was this a case of distracted driving? Was there an obstacle in the road that the driver was attempting to avoid?
Angel Santos, 21, of San Benito, died in a motorcycle-related accident in El Ranchito. Law enforcement believes that he was travelling south on Encantada Circle near U.S. Military 281 when he drove off the road. Santos died from the injuries he sustained in the accident. Police believe that Santos was speeding and that was the cause of the accident. In addition, it is reported that Santos was not wearing a helmet at the time.
It is incredibly important to wear the appropriate safety gear, especially when riding motorcycles. The injuries that one sustains from motorcycle accidents far exceeds the ones from car accidents. It is much easier to become severely injured from a motorcycle accident than a car accident, so wearing a helmet is critical.
