Reports coming out of Midland, Texas state that Jason Wayne Pope was involved in a fatal accident. Law enforcement believes that the accident occurred at about 3:30 AM on I-20. Police believe that Pope was driving a Chevrolet Silverado east on the south service road of the highway when he collided head-on with a GMC Sierra that was driving west. The driver and the passenger of the GMC were taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries, but Pope was killed from the injuries he sustained in the accident. Police also believe that Pope was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. It is unclear as to the exact reason for the accident. Perhaps one of the drivers veered into the other lane and collided head-on with the other vehicle. If this was the case, we wonder if the reason for this action was due to a vehicle malfunction. Perhaps one of the drivers could not see the other because of the early time of day.

Head-on collisions are not uncommon in Texas.

Alvarado Rivera Filimon, 27, of Katy was involved in a car accident in Trussville. According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at about 12 PM in the 7400 block of Roper Road. Police believe that a Ford Expedition was driving southwest on the road when it drove into the northeast lane. It collided head-on with a Alabama Power freightliner bucket truck. The driver of the Ford, Daniel Dustin Corey Van Leuven, 21, was taken to the hospital, but his passenger Filimon was pronounced dead. It is unknown as to why the Ford drifted into the other lane. We wonder if it was due to a vehicle malfunction or if the driver was attempting to pass another car.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to the victims’ families, who we imagine have been deeply saddened by these accidents. We also sincerely hope that those that are hospitalized have speedy recoveries. We wonder if these cases could trigger wrongful death claims.
