The jet was able to return to the airport of origin, DFW.
Contrary to passenger statements, a spokesperson from Spirit alleges that there was a “possible mechanical issue” leading to the malfunction of one engine on the Airbus A139. The spokesperson further alleges that there was smoke in the cabin, but reports that there were no flames.
To date, there have been no reported injuries. However, heavy smoke in an enclosed space can cause serious injury and even wrongful death.
