Flames Aboard Spirit Airlines Jet Near DFW Airport

On Behalf of | Oct 17, 2013 | Wrongful Death |

What really happened aboard the Spirit Airlines Airbus A139? Accidents involving commercial jets can be very frightening and may result in disfigurement or wrongful death.

On Wednesday, the passengers of a Spirit Airlines jet were frightened following an incident on a flight departing from the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. According to passengers, there was a loud explosion that was followed by flames that lit up the interior of the Airbus A139 and filled it with smoke shortly after takeoff of the Atlanta-bound flight. The jet was able to return to the airport of origin, DFW.

Contrary to passenger statements, a spokesperson from Spirit alleges that there was a “possible mechanical issue” leading to the malfunction of one engine on the Airbus A139. The spokesperson further alleges that there was smoke in the cabin, but reports that there were no flames.

To date, there have been no reported injuries. However, heavy smoke in an enclosed space can cause serious injury and even wrongful death. The passengers of this flight should be vigilant of any smoke inhalation symptoms. Smoke inhalation is the primary cause of injury and death in accidents involving an indoor fire. Burns injuries can also result from this incident.

Some of the symptoms of smoke inhalation are cough, shortness of breath, hoarseness, eye irritation, headache, confusion, seizures, and fainting, to name a few. Your doctor may treat you with oxygen, medication, and inhalers.

If you were aboard the Spirit Airlines Airbus A139 flight and suffered injuries, seek immediate medical attention and feel free to contact an attorney to discuss your legal options. You can reach a personal injury attorney at 713-572-4900.
