On Behalf of | Aug 21, 2013 | Wrongful Death |

A high-speed police chase on Aug. 12 ended in an accident that cost six people their lives and injured several others. A Texas Highway Patrol sergeant was in pursuit of a man suspected of stealing a truck just before the accident occurred. The driver of the truck allegedly ran through a red light at an intersection, causing the accident.

Police amended an earlier statement that said the truck was stolen from the Alton Police Department to indicate that the truck wasn’t a police vehicle. The Texas Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident which occurred in Mission, just north of the Mexican border.

The sergeant was chasing the man when he tried to speed through an intersection and collided with at least three other vehicles. Six people in those cars were killed. The man attempted to flee the truck after the accident, but he was taken into custody quickly by police. In addition to those who were killed, several others in the vehicles were injured and taken to nearby hospitals. Details on the victims and the individual were not immediately available.

This accident is may have a catastrophic effect on families of the victims in the case. Those who were killed could have provided the most financial support to their families or care for children. It’s important that both the families of those killed and those injured know that they have a right to seek compensation for their losses. Compensation from wrongful death and personal injury cases may cover lost wages, medical expenses and pain and suffering. An attorney may be able to help these accident victims negotiate a better settlement for themselves and their families.
