Fatal Texas crash results in intoxication manslaughter charge

In Carrollton, a 46-year-old man was charged with intoxication manslaughter. He was later moved and was being held in the Dallas County Jail on $150,000 bail. Vehicular intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony, could carry as much as a 20-year prison term plus as much as a $10,000 fine as per the Texas Penal Code.

A 45-year-old man was traveling to work in his Ford F-150 the night of Saturday, July 6. At around 7:30 p.m. he was on Interstate 35E in the general area of the Bush turnpike. He was struck from behind by a black Pontiac sedan, lost control of his truck following the initial impact from behind, struck the guardrail and went over it, finally striking a highway billboard pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dallas County M.E. who arrived after dispatchers received reports called in about the accident.

According to numerous witnesses at the scene of the auto accident, the Pontiac was seen driving erratically. After obtaining a warrant, Carrollton police searched the vehicle and collected a specimen of blood from the driver. There were, however, no empty containers of alcohol in the car, according to the police commander.

Motor vehicle accidents can occur at any time and to anyone. When they are injured by another driver, individuals may be faced with outstanding medical bills and personal property damage. The injured individual may also have to take time off of work in order to recover, causing the loss of wages that are needed for bills and expenses. A personal injury lawyer may be able to help these individuals to pursue compensation for their expenses.
